Application Requirements for Admission to UC Davis and Western U

University of California Davis School of Veterinary Medicine

  • Successful completion of the coursework listed
  • Grade Point Average (GPA)
    • Overall science GPA (minimum of 2.50)
    • GPA from the last two years (68 quarter units or 45 semester units)
    • Cumulative GPA (minimum of 2.50)
  • Completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
    • Leave ample time prior to applying to take the GRE – there are no extensions granted for late test scores!
  • Personal Essay through VMCAS
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation (at least one from a veterinarian)
  • Minimum of 180 hours of veterinary experience. However, applicants average 1,475 hours of veterinary experience by the time they apply.
  • Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) in early December at UC Davis

Western University of Health Sciences School of Veterinary Medicine

  • Successful completion of prerequisite coursework
  • Cumulative GPA (minimum of 2.75)
  • Completion of the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE)
  • Personal Essay through VMCAS
  • Three (3) letters of Recommendation (recommended that one be from a veterinarian)
  • Interview
  • Minimum of 500 hours of animal experience. This includes veterinary experience.
