Interpretation of Diagnostic Tests for Infectious Diseases
In this session, we will focus on understanding the groups of diagnostic tests available for infectious diseases, knowing the meaning of sensitivity, specificity, etiologic predictive value, and positive and negative predictive value, understanding limitations of diagnostic tests, how to optimize test results, and how to interpret panels for infectious diseases, and understanding current trends in diagnostic test development for small animals.
A Shifting Spirochetosis: Renewed Approaches to Leptospirosis
The objectives for this session include being able to identify suspect cases of leptospirosis in your practice, understanding risk factors for leptospirosis, and understanding newly available diagnostics and how to apply them in your practice. We will also discuss how to know the safety, efficacy, and indications for current vaccines against leptospirosis, as well as how to be aware of new recommendations regarding handling dogs suspected of having leptospirosis.
Antimicrobial Use Guidelines: Why, When, How Much ‡
During this course, we will cover how to become familiar with the International Society for Companion Animal Infectious Diseases’ (ISCAID) Antimicrobial Use Guidelines and why they were developed. Attendees will become familiar with ISCAID’s specific recommendations for empiric treatment of skin, respiratory, and urinary tract disease, learn the rationale for those recommendations, and to know how to apply the recommendations to daily veterinary practice.

Pathogen Soup: Update on Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease
Our goal for this session is to understand the range of different pathogens known to cause canine infectious respiratory disease and how they interact to cause clinical signs, when and how to perform diagnostic testing for respiratory pathogens, as well as the recommended treatments and preventative strategies that are available, including vaccination recommendations.
