AB 2077 (Ting) Hypodermic needles and syringes.

Summary: This bill authorizes pharmacies to sell sterile syringes for personal use without a prescription. Non-prescription sales will require education on safe disposal of syringes, HIV and hepatitis prevention, and for pharmacies to provide access to disposal containers.

SB 573 (Chang) Dog and cat microchip implants.

Summary: This bill requires that all dogs and cats held in a public animal control agency, shelter, or rescue group be microchipped prior to being released. If microchipping is not available on-site then the organization is mandated to make a good faith effort to locate free or discounted regional services and to provide that information to the owner.
