New Laws in 2021
With the enactment of several new employment laws taking effect in 2021, most businesses, including veterinary practices, will be affected. This talk will introduce several new and important laws that all employers and employees should be aware of moving forward. This talk is free to CVMA members and qualifies as continuing education credit for the purpose of California veterinarian and registered veterinary technician license renewal.
The following will be discussed during this webinar:
- Employer requirements due to COVID-19
- COVID state tax relief
- Changes to California sick leave, medical leave, and kin care
- Changes to workers’ compensation law
- And more
Mr. Baxter recently joined the California Veterinary Medical Association as its new executive director after 20 years as the CVMA’s outside legal counsel. In the latter capacity, he worked with the CVMA’s executive staff, Board of Governors, and membership on a variety of issues large and small, ranging from legislative and regulatory work to litigation. In his new role with the CVMA, Mr. Baxter looks forward to furthering the work of the association in support of the veterinary profession, including maintaining the CVMA’s status as a significant player in shaping veterinary-relevant statutes and regulations.
Dr. Grant Miller serves as the Director of Regulatory Affairs for the California Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA). As director, Dr. Miller assists California veterinary professionals with compliance issues and regulatory matters involving various local, state, and federal agencies. In addition, Dr. Miller heads the California Veterinary MedicalReserve Corps, a volunteer organization devoted to assisting animals with sheltering and veterinary care during disasters and emergencies.
