Mandatory CE for Registered Veterinary Technicians – CE Reference Chart
As an RVT, you are required to complete a minimum of 20 hours of approved continuing education in the two years preceding your license renewal date. For example, if you last renewed your license on January 31, 2016, you will need to accumulate a minimum of 20 CEUs between February 1, 2016 and January 31, 2018. Your renewal date is based on the month and year you were born. The day is the last day of your birth month and the year is determined by odd and even numbered years. Those born in odd numbered years will have renewal dates in odd number years and even numbered renewal years are assigned to those born in even numbered years.
Credit is calculated to the day, so in the above example, courses taken on January 31, 2016 will not count toward your January 31, 2018 renewal. Only those CE units earned on or after February 1, 2016 will count.
Newly licensed RVTs are not required to complete CE during their first licensing period. A minimum of 20 hours of CE credits must be accrued during the two-year period prior to your second licensing period and for each subsequent renewal period.
The reference chart below will help you determine when you need to start accumulating continuing education units:
