CVMA Internship/Residency Program

The CVMA approves qualified private practice internship/residency programs in California for veterinary practices that seek to employ veterinarians who do not have a California veterinary license. The California Business and Professions Code Section 4848.3 authorizes the Veterinary Medical Board (VMB) to issue a temporary license (expires after one year and is non-renewable) to a qualified intern or resident enrolled in a CVMA approved program. Practices must reapply to the program annually and meet specified program requirements in order to receive CVMA approval.  Practices in the program are inspected on a periodic basis by a CVMA representative to ensure that all program requirements are being met.
