SB 27 (Hill) took effect in 2018 and brings changes to the law which affect the way antimicrobial drugs are used in livestock. This includes a requirement that all antimicrobials be obtained by veterinary prescription or veterinary feed directive pursuant to a valid veterinarian-client-patient relationship. It also includes restrictions on the way antimicrobials may be used.
SB 361 (Hill) also takes effect in 2018 and requires all California licensed veterinarians to obtain one unit of continuing education on the judicious use of antimicrobials as a condition of license renewal.
