Five CVMA Members Appointed to AVMA Committees

Peter Bowie, DVM
Dr. Peter Bowie, the CVMA’s president, was appointed for another term to the AVMA’s Political Action Committee Board. In this capacity, Dr. Bowie will continue to help supervise and control the PAC in raising funds for the purpose of making contributions to the campaigns of candidates for federal public office, educate the general membership of the AVMA and to promote and encourage an understanding of the political/legislative process, and assist in the implementation of the Board of Directors-approved legislative and regulatory agenda by contacting federal officials and staff.

Jay Kerr, DVM
Dr. Jay Kerr was appointed to the Council on Education (COE) Selection Committee, fulfilling one of the slots for a former COE member. This committee develops and maintains the qualification review process for candidates for positions on the AVMA Council on Education. Dr. Kerr formerly served as a CVMA president and as a member of the CVMA Board of Governors, and is a co-chair and field coordinator for the California Veterinary Medical Reserve Corps.

 

 

Edith Marshall, DVM
Dr. Edith Marshall has been appointed as the at-large representative to the Committee on Antimicrobials. Dr. Marshall serves as the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Antimicrobial Use and Stewardship (AUS) branch chief, where she leads a team in the development and implementation of a high-visibility, first-in-the-nation antimicrobial monitoring and stewardship program for livestock in California. As a member of the AVMA’s Committee on Antimicrobials, Dr. Marshall has been tasked to promote, protect, and advance the veterinary profession and advise the AVMA Board of Directors on the topic of antimicrobials. Dr. Marshall’s term follows a prior term as an alternate representative to the same committee.

 

Teresa Morishita, DVM
Dr. Teresa Morishita was appointed to the Committee on Disaster and Emergency Issues, representing poultry medicine. Dr. Morishita, a member of the CVMA Board of Governors, works at the Western University of Health Sciences as a professor of poultry medicine and food safety in the College of Veterinary Medicine. Among other items, this committee is charged with addressing the veterinarian’s role in disaster and emergency issues and the effects of these incidents on animal health, public health, and the veterinary profession.

 

 

Laura , DVM
Dr. Laura Weintraub has been appointed for a second term to the Early Career Development Committee. The mission of this committee is to work with AVMA staff to develop resources that will impact AVMA members early in their careers, create networking opportunities for individuals early in their veterinary careers, and actively engage recent graduates to elicit discussions and gather feedback. Dr. Weintraub currently works at Loomis Basin Equine Medical Group as an emergency critical care resident veterinarian. She previously served on the CVMA’s House of Delegates from 2016−2019.
