Update on Antimicrobial Use and Stewardship Recommendations in Large and Companion Animals
This online seminar will cover important updates on antimicrobial use in both large and companion animals, as well as recommendations for antimicrobial stewardship.
Topics that will be discussed include:
Why antimicrobial stewardship is crucial in veterinary medicine
Updates on culture and sensitivity reporting
Updates on stewardship practices and recommendations in large and small animals
Applying the data to practical use in clinics
This course satisfies the one hour of California CE requirement on the judicious use of medically important antimicrobial drugs.
This course qualifies for 1.5 CEU.
Dr. Marissa Silva is the lead stewardship veterinarian with the California Department of Food and Agriculture’s Antimicrobial Use and Stewardship (AUS) program, which is tasked with the assessment, education, and enforcement of antimicrobial use in California livestock. She often speaks with youth as well as livestock producers and their veterinarians about methods to improve their use of antibiotics and reduce disease incidence on farm. Dr. Silva graduated from University College Dublin in Ireland.
Dr. Silene St. Bernard received her DVM degree from The Ohio State University and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (DACVPM). She has over 25 years of experience in companion animal veterinary medicine and is currently a regional medical director for VCA Animal Hospitals in Southern California. Dr. St. Bernard is a member and former chair of the Board of Health and Human Services for Long Beach and is a past-president of the American Association of Industry Veterinarians (AAIV), in addition to many other service roles.
