A New Direction
We pursued a direction for the logo that is modern, vibrant, and innovative. This new branding has a fresh and inventive feel, representing our responsibility to continually evolve and support veterinary members of all kinds.
Since its conception, it was vital that the logo reflected that we serve the whole state of California—all veterinary professionals across the state and across all fields of veterinary medicine. Therefore, it was a natural choice to incorporate the shape of California into the letters.
Within the letter V, a wave cradles the California symbol, demonstrating that the association is ever-flowing and adapting. Meanwhile, the “swoosh” also acts as a shadow, representing how the CVMA acts as the backbone to the veterinary profession in California.
Choice of Colors
We wanted to keep a shade of blue in the new version of the logo for several reasons. According to color psychology, blue conjures feelings of trust, authority, loyalty, and stability. With this choice of color, the CVMA reinforces its commitment to our members and the veterinary profession as the premier voice for veterinary medicine in the state. We continually strive to maintain the trust of our members as the defender of veterinary professionals.
Blue is also a calming color, as the CVMA seeks to be the balm to an always-chaotic legislative landscape and perpetual threats to the profession. Additionally, we chose a bright, sky blue, which reflects a youthful spirit and a hopeful outlook about the state of the profession with the CVMA leading the way.
The citrus orange was strategically chosen as the accent color for multiple reasons. Orange psychologically represents optimism, enthusiasm, and brightness—capturing our sustained hope in the future of veterinary medicine. It also traditionally symbolizes youth and modernity, which is important as we strive to be an evolving association that remains relevant to our members both now and in the future.
Lastly, our use of orange further roots our logo in California pride, with the color strongly associated with the state’s iconic orange groves in Southern California, the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and of course the state flower, the California Poppy, which blooms in all corners of the state. This ties our logo to both the past and present, and to Northern and Southern California.
The previous logo was used by the CVMA since the late 1990s. Designing and implementing a new logo was necessary to keep the CVMA modern and forward-thinking.
It’s Not About Politics….It’s About Your Profession. The CVMA-PAC is a bipartisan political action committee whose purpose is to educate state legislators and candidates on issues of importance to the veterinary profession
